“So Dave… how do you feel about leaving our comfort zone and writing a ‘not a dry eye in the house’ love song? No bass, no drums, and no electric guitars. Just a thought.”
So off he went to his little cave in the woods and came back a week later with an arrangement that just blew us away. I have no idea where he got the inspiration from but it was a million miles from anything we had worked on before (or since). I remember feeling the same way I did after I first heard the Samuel Barber soundtrack from the film ‘Platoon’.
Now all I needed to do was to come up with a lyric to match the scale and mood of the track… no pressure then! Strangely though that very mood seemed to bring out the storyline quite naturally. The song didn’t quite write itself but I did feel that the music somehow sketched the outline of Dave’s soundscape and my job was simply to add the colours.
So if you’re feeling totally lost within someone and looking for the right words to express those emotions, then this song could very well be the perfect one for you.
Keith.
